ALO-HUH??

HEGARTY LEIS INTO LIGHT FIELD FOR LONG-AWAITED WIN

Matt Hegarty earned his first win in nearly three years, taking the PHONY Open (not) in Hawaii January 18 at Fidalae Country Pub.  His 2-under par total was enough to fend off a pesky Chris Datres.  Both men hovered around Even par for the better part of the night, but it was Hegarty who held on long enough to be the Big Kahuna and gain his first PDGA Tour victory since the 2007 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by golfdarts.org.

The elated champion was stoked to report that he will not be participating in the 2011 tournament of champions as a marker, but rather as a bona fide competitor.

Scott Lee and Reed Burton rounded out the PHONY field and enjoyed some pleasant conversation.  Results

ROBISON TAKES OPENER

FINAL-ROUND 58 NO B.S. AS ROBISON STARTS YEAR OFF RIGHT

The 2010 season got underway with the winners-only BS Championship Monday, January 11 at Fidalua and the refrain was an old familiar one: Alan Robison wins.  The tour's all-time victory leader by a long shot, Robison notched his 74th career triumph.

On a night where good scores were harder to come by than a recent picture of Tiger Woods, Robison and Bret Brillante found their rhythm in the final round and dueled to a gripping finish.  In the end, Brillante's tournament-best 56 was not enough to catch Robison, who started the finale 5 shots clear of The Octopus.

2009 Players Champion and second-round leader Mike Kula could not keep pace over the last 18, with a closing round of 72 dropping him back to third place.  Results
